    DRY ROT REPAIR OVERVIEW

Wood Rot Repair for Exterior and Structural Damage

Dry rot and wood rot can affect more than the board that first appears damaged. Decay around siding joints, roof edges, windows, decks, and exterior trim can continue into sheathing, framing, posts, or other wood behind the finished surface.

Fuller Termite completes exterior and structural wood repairs based on the condition found after the area is opened. Rotted material is removed, affected components are repaired or replaced, and the rebuilt area is finished according to the approved repair scope. Conditions that may continue exposing the wood to moisture are also identified.

    HOW THE SCOPE IS SET

    What Determines the Final Repair

    01

    Visible Damage

Soft, cracked, stained, or crumbling wood is examined to establish the initial repair area and identify the components involved.

    02

    Conditions Behind the Surface

Once the damaged section is opened, the surrounding wood is checked for decay that was not visible during the initial inspection.

    03

    Required Repair Work

The final scope is based on how far the damage extends and which materials must be repaired or replaced to reach sound wood.

    DRY ROT REPAIR SERVICES

Our Dry Rot Repair Services in Sacramento, CA

Dry rot can affect a single piece of exterior trim or extend into the wood supporting it. Our dry rot and wood rot repair services cover the exterior finishes and structural components commonly damaged by fungal decay. The affected material is removed and the area is rebuilt using sound wood suited to the location.

    Siding and Exterior Trim Repair

Rotted siding, corner boards, belly bands, and exterior trim are removed and rebuilt to restore the damaged section. Once the surface material is removed, adjoining wood can be checked for decay that was previously concealed. The repair continues until it reaches material that remains sound.

Dry rot repair to fascia, eaves, and roofline wood on a Sacramento home.

    Fascia, Eaves and Roofline Repair

We repair wood rot affecting fascia boards, soffits, rafter tails, and eaves, including damage near roof edges and gutters. The repair may include adjoining roofline components when decay has spread beyond the visible board. Rebuilt sections are prepared for the appropriate exterior finish.

    Window and Door Frame Repair

Decay around exterior windows and doors can affect casing, sills, jambs, and nearby framing. Damaged components are removed and rebuilt while preserving unaffected parts of the opening. This restores solid attachment points for the surrounding trim and exterior finishes.

    Deck, Stair and Post Repair

Dry rot repairs are available for deck boards, stairs, railings, posts, and accessible supporting members weakened by moisture exposure. Connections and nearby boards are checked when the damaged section is opened. The required repair depends on whether the decay is limited to the surface or has reached the supporting structure.

Structural Framing, Beam and Joist Repair

Studs, beams, joists, and other framing components can be repaired or replaced when wood rot has moved beyond the exterior surface. The repair plan accounts for the extent of decay and the function of each affected component. New material is installed to restore a solid structural connection.
Dry rot repair to crawlspace subfloor framing and supporting wood at a Sacramento home.

    Subfloor and Crawlspace Wood Repair

We repair damaged subflooring, floor framing, and accessible crawlspace wood where fungal decay has weakened the floor system. Repairs may involve localized subfloor sections, floor joists, rim joists, or other accessible supporting wood. The exact area is confirmed after the affected materials can be fully examined.

    SIGNS OF WOOD DECAY

When to Schedule Dry Rot Repair

Dry rot repair should be scheduled when wood begins to soften, crack, crumble, or separate from the surrounding material. Peeling paint that keeps returning, dark staining, open joints, and loose exterior components can also indicate wood rot below the finished surface.

A dry rot repair contractor should examine the area when the damage is spreading, affects a weight-bearing component, or returns after a previous patch. Opening the affected section reveals how far the decay extends and which materials need to be replaced.

    Common signs that need attention:

    • Wood feels soft or breaks apart under light pressure
    • Fascia, siding, or trim begins pulling away
    • Deck boards, stairs, railings, or posts feel loose
    • Paint repeatedly bubbles, cracks, or peels in the same area
    • Dark staining appears around windows, doors, gutters, or roof edges
    • Floors feel soft or uneven near an exterior wall or crawlspace

The full repair scope is confirmed once the affected wood can be properly exposed and examined.

    WHAT TO EXPECT

    Our Dry Rot Repair Process

The repair scope is confirmed as the affected wood is exposed. Any additional damage is reviewed with you before work continues.

    01

    Dry Rot Inspection

The visible damage and accessible surrounding wood are examined to identify the affected components, signs of moisture exposure, and the initial repair area.

    02

    Expose the Damaged Wood

Siding, trim, decking, or other finished material is carefully removed where necessary. This provides access to concealed wood and shows how far the decay has extended.

    03

    Confirm the Repair Scope

The exposed area is compared with the initial findings. Any additional repair work is explained, priced, and approved before the work continues.

    04

    Remove and Rebuild

Decayed material is removed back to sound wood. Damaged components are repaired or replaced using suitable materials and secure connections for the location.

    05

    Final Review and Warranty

The completed repair is checked for fit, stability, and finish. You receive confirmation of the work completed, and the repair is backed by a 2-year warranty.

Ryan Fuller is so honest that he will give you the best advice for your situation and not his pocketbook. He could have made substantially more money by encouraging me to do ALL his recommended repairs and he did not. Instead, he advised me the best route for me financially and for possibly a quicker sale of my home. (Bottom line, he could've made $10k plus, and we are only doing $1,400 per Ryan's recommendation. Quite the savings I would say!) Honestly, his integrity and work ethic are superior, and I would highly encourage you to give him a call for all of your pest needs. He is very responsive and really works with your schedule. I truly can't give this guy enough kudos with all the help he has been through my home purchase and now a home sale. The home I bought needed quite a bit of work, including to be tented for wood boring beetles and sprayed for subterranean termites, and he saved me over $3,500 on that work! Really, he is a gem. I will refer no one else. Ryan is the man to call!

    Dry Rot Repair FAQs

    Frequently Asked Questions

Dry rot and wood rot develop when wood remains damp long enough for decay-causing fungi to grow. Common sources include roof or gutter leaks, failed exterior caulking, plumbing leaks, irrigation, poor drainage, and limited crawlspace ventilation.
No. Dry rot is fungal decay caused by moisture, while termite damage is caused by insects feeding on wood. Both problems can affect the same area, so the damaged material should be examined before the repair method is decided.
No. Paint, filler, and surface patches do not restore wood that has softened or lost strength. The decayed material must be removed, and the affected component must be repaired or replaced back to sound wood.
Yes. Sound surrounding wood can remain when the decay is limited to a defined area. Material that is soft, crumbling, or no longer structurally reliable must be removed and replaced.
Dry rot repair cost depends on the location of the damage, the materials involved, access to the area, and how far the decay extends behind the visible surface. The repair price is confirmed after the affected components have been examined, and any additional work found after opening the area requires approval.
A localized trim, siding, or fascia repair may take 1 day, while structural repairs or damage affecting several connected areas can require multiple days. The expected timeline is provided after the repair scope is established.
Yes, dry rot can return when the moisture source remains. Damaged wood can be replaced, but roof leaks, plumbing problems, drainage issues, failed caulking, or ventilation concerns must also be corrected to prevent new decay.
Yes. Dry rot and wood rot repairs can be completed for items identified during a WDO inspection or real estate transaction. The repair scope, scheduling, and required documentation are confirmed before work begins.
Yes. Completed dry rot and wood rot repair work is backed by a 2-year warranty. The warranty coverage is reviewed with you as part of the approved repair scope.
